Queen and Grant
Located in the Brunswick Old Town Historic District, the c.1930 industrial building now known as the Queen and Grant, served various functions from automobile repair to art studio before its recent transformation into an event space. Work on the project included fixing the steel sash windows, maintaining the exposed brick walls, reglazing the windows and sealing the interior brick walls. The project also included the installation of a new sealed concrete floor. Located outside the more densely populated part of Brunswick’s historic core, this project used historic tax credits to revitalize an underutilized part of the city. Complementing adjacent restoration efforts, it also contributes to the broader revitalization of downtown and demonstrates the significance of historic preservation in community development.
Excellence in Rehabilitation Awards recognize projects that make compatible use of a building through repair, alterations or additions while preserving features of the property that convey its historic value.
