Prontaut-Henry House
The Prontaut-Henry house was built c. 1875 serving as a single-family residence until the mid-20th century. The home later fell into disrepair after the law office that occupied it left, creating a long-term vacancy. In 2019, the house was added to Historic Augusta’s Endangered Properties List. The house was rehabilitated using historic tax credits, adhering to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, and preserving the heart of pine flooring, original plaster, wood windows, original trim and fireplace mantels among other historic features. The porches were also restored and modern kitchens, HVAC systems and plumbing were installed. The structure now boasts six loft-style apartments.
Excellence in Rehabilitation Awards recognize projects that make compatible use of a building through repair, alterations or additions while preserving features of the property that convey its historic value.
