Maria Saporta

Maria Saporta is a longtime Atlanta business, civic and urban affairs journalist with a deep knowledge of our city, our region and state. Since 2008, she has written a weekly column and news stories for the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Prior to that, she spent 27 years with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, becoming its business columnist in 1991. Maria received her master’s degree in urban studies from Georgia State and her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University. Through her acclaimed publication The Saporta Report, Maria has highlighted preservation successes and failures and helped educate a wider audience about why our historic built environment matters, something highlighted by her recent piece from January 2017 titled, “Let’s do a better job preserving Atlanta’s past in 2017.”

Awards in the Excellence in Preservation Service category recognize persons, groups, businesses or government entities demonstrating exemplary activities and promoting awareness in the field of historic preservation. The scope of work may be of local, regional or statewide significance.
