Manuel’s Tavern

Atlanta - Fulton County

Located in a 1922 commercial building, Manuel’s Tavern has been an Atlanta institution since 1956. Manuel Maloof, a local politician, transformed the space from a neighborhood bar to a must-visit gathering place for politicians and political junkies alike. Started in 2015, preservation work included cleaning and repointing the original granite and brick walls, repainting the building’s four exterior trademark advertising murals, and retaining interior treatments wherever possible. Most significantly, the huge collection of photographs, bar memorabilia, and advertisements were documented and charted to ensure reinstallation in their original location after work was completed. This neighborhood watering hole, which welcomed generations of Georgia and national politicians, will now continue to serve the community for years to come.
