Fox Theatre Institute

Born from the legacy of Atlanta’s own Fox Theatre—a beacon of cultural revival and community uplift—the Fox Theatre Institute has extended a helping hand to other cultural landmarks striving to rejuvenate and reenergize their communities. Since its founding in 2008, the Fox Theatre Institute has been an outreach program offering historic preservation and operations expertise, consultation and educational support to performing arts venues across Georgia and the Southeast. In that time, the Fox Theatre has awarded more than $3.2 million in financial support and shared its organizational experience with over 70 other theaters by providing historic preservation grants and guidance and offering professional development through seminars and strategic planning. With the Fox Theatre recently celebrating 15 years of community partnership through the Fox Theatre Institute, the program is now evolving with a new name and an expanded vision into “Fox Gives.” Fox Gives will continue to specialize in breathing new life into historic theaters, and at the heart of the initiative remains the commitment to preservation and economic development, offering a blend of financial support, restoration expertise and operational mentoring.

The Mark C. McDonald Award recognizes an outstanding organization that has demonstrated sustained commitment to historic preservation and has had a positive impact on preservation in their local community.
