Visit the UGA Marine Institute, a world-class research facility dedicated to studying Georgia’s coastal ecosystems. Explore the historic Reynolds Mansion, once the luxurious retreat of tobacco heir R.J. Reynolds, Jr. On hand will be Russell Clayton, a renowned expert on the works of Athos Menaboni, the celebrated artist who painted vibrant wildlife murals throughout the mansion. Visitors are invited to explore its elegantly appointed rooms, each filled with unique artifacts and tales of the island’s former inhabitants.
Experience a fascinating tour of the historic Sapelo Island Lighthouse, guided by David Freedman, the award-winning preservation engineer who led the rehabilitation of the lighthouse and Sapelo expert. Freedman will provide a behind-the-scenes perspective of its meticulous restoration and historic significance of the lighthouse.
Enjoy lunch at Lula’s restaurant which offers an authentic taste of Sapelo in the heart of Hogg Hummock, one of the last remaining Gullah Geechee communities in the United States.
