Zachariah Daniel House

Augusta - Richmond County

An outstanding example of Second Empire architecture, Augusta’s Zachariah Daniel House now has a second lease on life as a 10-unit apartment complex. Listed on Historic Augusta’s Endangered Properties List in 2015, the property had been neglected and condemned. Retaining a significant amount of its character defining features in the rehabilitation– including original windows, ornate mantels and decorative wooden ceiling – the property was sensitively divided to provide efficient living spaces within the high-style house.

Excellence in Rehabilitation Awards recognize projects that make compatible use of a building through repair, alterations or additions while preserving features of the property that convey its historic value.
