Rivet House Hotel
The Rivet House Hotel is an adaptive reuse of a portion of the late 19th century textile mill complex known as Southern Mill. Masonry construction with heavy timber structures, the mill operated until the mid-1990s before decades of abandonment led to severe deterioration. Rehabilitation of the Rivet House removed non-historic infill and repaired the exposed heavy timber structure and masonry walls. Approximately twenty percent of the timber framing was replaced in kind. New windows match historic mill proportions, and modern building systems were discreetly integrated throughout. The project preserved the building’s industrial character and integrity while preventing demolition and returning a significant industrial landmark to active use.Â
