Step inside some of Northwest Georgia’s most stunning private homes and fascinating historic sites as we Ramble to Rome and Floyd County.
Begin in Cave Spring, where a stroll through the quaint downtown reveals historic brick storefronts and a remarkable collection of beautifully preserved homes that showcase the town’s 19th- and early 20th-century character and craftsmanship.
In nearby Rome, explore gorgeous homes in the Between the Rivers Historic District, known for its elegant Victorian and Neoclassical residences set along picturesque streets.
The weekend will conclude at Berry College, where guests can enjoy its striking Collegiate Gothic architecture, sweeping lawns, and iconic stone buildings set against the backdrop of the rolling Northwest Georgia landscape.
Friday, September 25
CAVE SPRING
Experience the small town charm and architectural beauty of Cave Spring. Seemingly straight out of a Hallmark movie, Cave Spring is one of Northwest Georgia’s best kept secrets. Nestled among the rolling hills of northwest Georgia, Cave Spring was founded in the 1830s around a crystal-clear natural spring and limestone cave, the town grew into an important cultural and commercial center. Today, Cave Spring’s historic district showcases an extraordinary collection of Victorian, Greek Revival, Italianate, and Craftsman style homes.
Explore notable private residences, including the 1869 Gothic Revival Wesley O. Connor House (pictured). Built for Wesley O. Connor, superintendent of the Georgia School for the Deaf from 1867 to 1916, this picture-perfect home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tour stunning homes on tree-lined streets and gain an insider’s view into what makes Cave Spring one of Georgia’s most charming towns!
Conclude the day in nearby Lindale with cocktails and dinner at the historic Mill at Lindale. Built in 1896 by the Massachusetts Cotton Mills Company, the Lindale Mill became one of Georgia’s largest and most influential textile mills, helping shape the economy and community life of Floyd County for more than a century.
Saturday, September 26
ROME
Stroll through Rome’s Between the Rivers Historic District, the largest Victorian-era neighborhood in Georgia and the birthplace of the city in 1834. Nestled beneath Rome’s iconic City Clocktower, this charming district showcases beautifully preserved architecture and rich history.
Ramblers will also tour The Columns (pictured), an elegant 1910 Neoclassical home that stands as one of the neighborhood’s most treasured landmarks. The day continues in the College Heights neighborhood, known for its scenic streets featuring picturesque Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and mid-century modern homes. Explore Rome’s vibrant Broad Street and downtown historic district and visit its many rehabilitated buildings and lofts.
Conclude the day with dinner with cocktails and dinner at Fifth and Broad, a beautifully restored building located in the heart of downtown Rome.
Sunday, September 27
A DAY AT BERRY
Begin the day with brunch in Berry College’s impressive Ford Dining Hall, a Gothic Revival landmark inspired by Christ Church College at Oxford and gifted by Henry and Clara Ford in 1925. Founded in 1902 by educator Martha Berry, Berry College is celebrated for its English Gothic architecture, scenic courtyards, and distinction as the world’s largest contiguous college campus. Ramblers will have the opportunity to explore the campus’s many historic treasures, including Oak Hill, the home of founder Martha Berry.
In the afternoon, visit Summerville’s Paradise Garden, Howard Finster’s visionary folk art masterpiece and a celebrated Georgia Trust award recipient.
What are Rambles?
Rambles feature exclusive tours and social events in historic properties not usually open to the public. Tours of historic homes and buildings are self-guided, and guests provide their own transportation. Maps and programs are provided at packet pick-up. Catered meals are offered as part of registration packages; however, there are tour-only (no meals) options as well.
These trips attract hundreds of participants per Ramble and are offered two weekends each year (fall and spring). Recent Rambles have included Augusta, Madison and the Golden Isles.
