History Hike at Sweetwater Creek State Park
Saturday, October 4, 2025
10:00 a.m.
Sweetwater Creek State Park
1750 Mount Vernon Road
Lithia Springs, Georgia 30122
Join your fellow Inherit Georgia members and Georgia Trust President & CEO Wright Mitchell for a ranger-led, three-mile hike through the rolling landscape of Sweetwater Creek State Park, where nature reclaims the remains of one of Georgia’s most fascinating historic sites. Discover a Lost Town Hidden in the Forest.
Nestled along the creek are the haunting ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company, once a bustling textile mill powered by the rushing water and labor of nearly 100 workers. Incorporated in 1849, the five-story mill was the heart of a thriving company town—complete with a post office, company store, and housing for more than 250 residents.
All that remains today are the evocative stone walls and foundations—rare traces of industrial ambition, wartime upheaval, and human resilience. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to explore the ruins up close.
