Thomas L. Bell Memorial Ballpark
Opened in 1938, Thomas L. Bell Memorial Ballpark is a rare surviving wooden baseball stadium constructed through the Works Progress Administration. Named for Mayor Thomas L. Bell, who championed its creation, the ballpark hosted professional and semi-professional teams for decades and later became a beloved home field for Americus High School baseball. One of only a handful of historic wooden ballparks still standing in Georgia, the site reflects Americus’ long association with baseball and New Deal-era recreational development.Â
 ThreatÂ
Although the ballpark remains in use for high school baseball, its long-term future is uncertain. The high school campus on which it is located has been abandoned, and no plans have been announced for the stadium once athletic programs relocate. Without a preservation plan and continued investment in maintenance, this historic ballpark faces the risk of vacancy, neglect and eventual loss.Â
