This year’s 31st Annual Spring Stroll will shine a spotlight on the homes and designs of architect Neel Reid. A notable figure in Atlanta, Reid also left his mark on numerous neighborhoods in Macon. Join us in exploring Neel Reid sites throughout the city, featuring some of the city’s most breathtaking private gardens and residences. Wander through lush pathways and marvel at the intricate craftsmanship that defines Reid’s architectural legacy. Each site on the tour tells its own story, from grand façades to welcoming interiors and intimate gardens that invite leisurely afternoons. Discover how Reid’s innovative use of space and light transformed early 20th-century homes into timeless works of art.

INSIDE NEEL REID: ARCHITECTURE, PRESERVATION AND PLACE
Join us at the Neel Reid home of Richard Bates to kick off Historic Preservation Month. This home and garden will only be open for this one event. Engage with experts in historic preservation and architecture while enjoying cocktails, refreshments, and container gardening demonstrations led by Macon’s talented Jim Hutto. This event serves as a wonderful introduction to the Spring Stroll Weekend and Historic Preservation month. A panel discussion will be led by Georgia Trust President and CEO Wright Mitchell, Historic Macon Foundation’s Director Emily Hopkins, Atlanta architect and Reid expert Jonathon LaCrosse. The panelists will explore the significance of preserving historical sites and the impact Neel Reid’s efforts have on community identity and cultural heritage. The evening promises to be both enlightening and enjoyable, with opportunities for networking and learning.

Join us for a delightful evening stroll led by Reid aficionado Jim Barfield, a local historian with over thirty years of teaching experience and more than forty years dedicated to historic preservation and Hay House. His passion for education and his role as a trusted community voice are truly remarkable. Begin at Hay House and meander up Georgia Avenue and down College Street, taking in the beautiful homes inspired or designed by Neel Reid. You’ll uncover not only the architectural nuances but also the fascinating stories that link these homes to Reid and the families who contributed to their history. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a Hay House tumbler!

This specialty tour provides guests with a behind-the-scenes look at areas of Hay House that are not accessible on the regular tour. Guests will have the opportunity to see the wine cellar, secret room, balcony, and attic. The spectacular 360-degree view of Macon from the widow’s walk is a must-see! This tour lasts approximately 2 hours.
There are many stairs in the house. Though the building is wheelchair accessible and has a small elevator, there are still many stairs involved on this tour. The house’s elevator only goes to the 3rd level. Behind-the-Scenes tours cover all seven levels, so dress comfortably!
Event ticket: $45 per person
Reservations with advanced payment are required. Registration is limited to 15 people maximum.

Experience Hay House after dark! Go behind the scenes at what Architectural Digest calls one of the “13 Most Beautiful Haunted Destinations Around the World.” Hear spine-tingling tales of unexplained noises, lights with a mind of their own, and real-life ghost sightings.
Come a little early to enjoy a “spirit” (a complimentary glass of wine, beer or soda) and browse around the ground level of the house before the tour. Refreshments will be offered from 5:30-6:00 p.m. The tour will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and typically lasts an hour and a half.
Tickets: $45 per person

Parking is available in the small parking lot directly behind Hay House. The driveway entrance is on the corner of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street. Parking is also available on the street in front of Hay House.

Hay House presents Haunts & History on the Hill, a walking ghost tour of Macon’s Intown neighborhood. Hear spine tingling tales of supernatural activity in one of the city’s most haunted areas. Learn the history of Macon’s historic structures and the spirits that inhabit them. This tour will highlight stories of ghosts and legends that surround many of the historic buildings in Macon’s College Hill Corridor.
Each tour lasts approximately 1 1/2 hours. Reservations required. Comfortable shoes and clothing are encouraged.
