Preserving Georgia’s Black Churches

February 27 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Part of Preserving Georgia’s African American Resources Series

Historic Black churches are more than places of worship—they are cultural landmarks and enduring symbols of resilience, community, and faith. Join us for “Preserving Georgia’s Black Churches,” a virtual class designed for congregations actively working to preserve these vital institutions.

This session will provide practical guidance on fundraising and preservation strategies, with insights from Leslie Canaan, Senior Manager of Preserving Black Churches at the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Learn from the experiences of Chubb Chapel United Methodist Church in Cave Spring and St. James AME Church in Columbus as they share their inspiring journeys of preserving their buildings and safeguarding their histories.

We’ll explore:

 – Effective ways to engage your congregation and community in preservation efforts.
 – Funding opportunities that may be available to your congregation.
 – How to capture and preserve the stories and legacies tied to these sacred spaces.

This is your chance to connect with fellow advocates, gain tools to take your preservation project to the next level, and celebrate the incredible heritage of Georgia’s historic Black churches.

Registration is free; spaces are limited.

Information to join the session will be emailed to registered attendees in advance of the class.
