Join us to celebrate Women’s History Month with a guided walking tour of Atlanta’s Sunset Avenue in historic Vine City.
Hear the untold stories behind some of the neighborhood’s most historic houses and landmarks, and the inspiring women who made history there.
One of the female trailblazers featured on the tour is Lugenia Burns Hope, an early Civil Rights pioneer. She made her mark in the early 20th century as a social activist, reformer and community organizer. In 1932, she achieved the milestone of becoming the first vice president of the Atlanta chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Her contribution and impact were further recognized in 1996 when she was inducted into the Georgia Women of Achievement.
Begin the afternoon with lunch at Rodney Cook Sr. Park, a 16-acre park and collaboration of the Trust for Public Land and the City of Atlanta. “The Women of Sunset Avenue” walking tour will be led by Ann Hill-Bond, Community Steward for Fulton County Remembrance Coalition and journalist at the Atlanta Voice and Canopy Atlanta.
This tour has limited spots. Onsite parking available.
Please note: This is a walking tour of the exteriors only. We will not be going inside any buildings.
