Philip Housworth came from South Carolina, purchased this property from the original land lottery winner and settled on it around 1822. His son, Michael, constructed a house (now gone) and detached kitchen c. 1830. Due to hard times, the family lost the property after the Civil War, but Michael’s grandson, J. J. W. “Buddy” Housworth, bought it back in the 1880s. He constructed the existing house around 1890. The property remains in the Housworth family today.

The 1,600-sq.-ft. Folk Victorian home sits on nine acres near the Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve. Outbuildings include the c. 1830 log kitchen, a barn, log corncrib and a 1960s garage/workshop. The acreage has large mature trees and a small pond.

The house has two bedrooms, 1˝ baths, kitchen, living room and dining room.  Features include four fireplaces, hardwood floors and original gingerbread detailing. The house would require some work, including updating systems, wood repair, window repair and painting.

The Georgia Trust is a non-profit statewide preservation organization. The Revolving Fund Program was established to provide effective alternatives to demolition or neglect of architecturally and historically significant properties by promoting their rehabilitation and monitoring their preservation in perpetuity. A buyer of a Revolving Fund property is required to sign a Rehabilitation Agreement and donate an Architectural and Preservation Easement to The Georgia Trust. The easement, which ensures the historic integrity of the property is retained, is attached to the deed in perpetuity.
