Left side of the house |
Built in 1837 by Moses Harshaw,
the Stovall House is listed in
the
National Register of
Historic Places. The William
Stovall family lived in the
house from 1893 until the late
1940s. |
|
|
Mr. Stovall,
who owned a sawmill, contributed
to the development of the Sautee
Valley. The house was later owned
by a doctor and eventually sold to
the current owner, who turned the
house into a bed and breakfast. |

Back of the house |

Central Hall |
Operated
as a bed and breakfast and restaurant
for more than 20 years, the Stovall
House sits on 28 acres of rolling
green hills. The property would be
ideal for a vineyard or continued use
as a small inn and/or restaurant. The
house is listed on the
National Register of Historic Places
and may be eligible for several
financial incentives, including an 8
1/2 year tax abatement and tax credits
for substantial rehabilitation.
The
house would require some cosmetic
work, such as minor wood repair and
painting. Additional work would depend
upon the end use of the house. |

The Georgia Trust is a non-profit statewide
preservation organization, part of a network of
local, state and national
organizations dedicated to the
preservation of significant historic
resources. The
Revolving Fund Program was established to
provide effective alternatives to demolition or
neglect of architecturally and historically
significant properties by promoting their
rehabilitation and monitoring their preservation in
perpetuity. A buyer of a Revolving Fund property is
required to sign a
Rehabilitation Agreement and
donate an Architectural and Preservation Easement to
The Georgia Trust. The easement, which ensures the
historic integrity of the property is retained, is
attached to the deed in perpetuity.
