In addition to providing preservation
resources for individuals and communities
throughout the state, the work of The Georgia Trust
helps:
-
Save
Endangered Houses and Buildings
Since 1990, our
Endangered
Properties
program has saved more than 20
properties
in danger of demolition or neglect. Looking
to buy a historic property? Visit our current
properties for sale
or sign our guest
book to receive a
notice when your dream property becomes
available.
-
Uncover
the Beauty of Downtown Buildings
Our
Main
Street Design Assistance program helps
historic Main
Street cities
and other communities
enhance the beauty of their downtown buildings
by offering design and technical assistance to
building owners and Main Street managers.
-
Educate
the Next Preservation Generation
Talking
Walls, our heritage education program,
trains teachers to incorporate local historic
resources into their social studies, language
arts and visual arts lessons.
-
Advocate
for Preservation Funding and Laws
We
coordinate Georgians for
Preservation (GaPA), a statewide network of
preservation advocates who encourage state and
national public policies that promote the
preservation of historic resources and tax
credits and funding for preservation projects.
Get involved by visiting our Online
Advocacy Center.
The
Georgia Trust accomplishes this work through the
support of our members
and donors
and revenue from our special
events.
Revolving Fund for
Endangered Properties
Established
in 1990, the Revolving Fund provides effective
alternatives to demolition or neglect of
architecturally and historically significant
properties by promoting their rehabilitation and
enabling owners of endangered historic properties to
connect with buyers who will rehabilitate their
properties.
Main
Street Design Assistance Program
The
Main Street Design Assistance Program has provided
on-site consultations and drawings to more than
3,000 buildings in more than 70 Georgia cities.
Talking
Walls
The
Heritage Education program provides teachers with
the means to educate students about their town’s
history. More than 1,640 teachers have been trained
through the program, reaching 364,000 students in 56
school systems in 51 Georgia counties.
Georgians
for Preservation Action
Founded
in 1987, the statewide coordinating council for
historic preservation advocacy encourages laws,
programs and policies that promote the preservation
of Georgia’s historic resources by mobilizing
grassroots preservationists across the state.
Places in Peril
The Georgia
Trust’s Places in Peril program seeks to
identify significant historic, archaeological and
cultural properties that are threatened by
demolition, deterioration or insensitive public
policy or development, and have a demonstrable level
of community interest, commitment and support. Each
listed property also represents an entire category
of historic resources that is threatened throughout
Georgia. Through this program, the Trust encourages
owners and individuals, organizations and
communities to employ preservation tools,
partnerships and resources necessary to preserve and
utilize selected historic properties in peril.
The 2008 Places in Peril
list will be announced in November 2007. The Trust
is currently searching to identify the most
significant endangered properties in Georgia to
reclaim, restore and revitalize. The 2008 nomination
forms must be e-mailed or postmarked by Friday, June
8, 2007. To obtain a Places in Peril nomination
form, please
