Sets Annual Preservation Ball
for Saturday, Feb. 2, at Atlanta History
Center
ATLANTA,
Dec. 27, 2007—The Georgia Trust for Historic
Preservation will host its 24th annual
Preservation Ball inside the Grand Overlook
Ballroom at the Atlanta History Center on
Saturday, February 2, 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
Tickets are $200 per person for the “Big
Band Blowout” themed fund raiser honoring
President and CEO Greg Paxton’s 27 years
with the organization. Tickets can be
purchased by calling 404-885-7805. All
proceeds benefit The Georgia Trust for
Historic Preservation.
This year’s chairs are Amy and Allen Nelson.
Honorary chairs are Mary and Billy Warren.
Past chairs have included Sissy and David
Perdue, Dean DuBose Smith and Willem and
Merrel Hattnik.
The black-tie event will feature cocktails,
lively entertainment from the Atlanta Swing
Orchestra, gaming tables, dancing and fine
cuisine from Atlanta’s top caterers while an
expected 400 patrons roll the dice for
preservation.
“The Preservation Ball is our best and most
enjoyable fund raiser of the year,” said
Greg Paxton, president and CEO of The
Georgia Trust. “This year’s Ball will expand
on that tradition.”
Sponsors for this year’s Preservation Ball
include SunTrust, Morgan Keegan, Federal
Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, Lanier Parking
Systems and Merrill Lynch.
The Trust’s first Preservation Ball was held
in 1983. Since then it has been staged at
several different venues, including the
Georgia State Capitol, the Georgian Terrace
Hotel and the Biltmore Ballrooms.
The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation
is one of the country’s largest statewide,
nonprofit preservation organizations with
more than 8,000 members.
Committed to preserving and enhancing
Georgia’s communities and their diverse
historic resources for the education and
enjoyment of all, The Georgia Trust
generates community revitalization by
finding buyers for endangered properties
acquired by its Revolving Fund; provides
design assistance to 102 Georgia Main Street
cities and encourages neighborhood
revitalization; trains teachers in 63
Georgia school systems to engage students to
discover state and national history through
their local historic resources; and
advocates for funding, tax incentives and
other laws aiding preservation efforts.
The Trust is a recipient of the Trustees
Award for Organizational Excellence from the
National Trust for Historic Preservation.
