UGA Student
Wins Scholarship from
Georgia Trust for
Historic Preservation
ATLANTA, April
22, 2006 –
Amy
Bracewell, a graduate student at the University of
Georgia, was awarded the Phinizy B. Spalding
Scholarship from The Georgia Trust for Historic
Preservation at its recent Annual Meeting in
Athens.
The $1,000
scholarship encourages the study of historic
preservation and related fields. A Master’s
student in Historic Preservation at UGA, Bracewell
also holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and
German from Emory University and a Master’s in art
history from the University of Texas at Austin.
Along with an
interest in ancient art, Bracewell is dedicated to
increasing public education of Georgia’s Native
American
history. Bracewell will intern with the National
Park Service at Mount Rushmore this summer. She
will serve as an interpretive ranger, sharing the
park’s history with visitors.
Bracewell is also an
accomplished musician, having been first oboist
with the Emory University Symphony Orchestra.
The
Trust has awarded academic stipends to worthy
students studying in fields related to historic
preservation at Georgia colleges and universities
since 1977. The Phinizy B. Spalding Scholarship,
named after a Georgia Trust board member and
long-time advocate for preservation in Athens,
ensures that knowledgeable leaders continue to
enter the field.
