Student Wins Scholarship from
Georgia Trust for
Historic Preservation
ATLANTA, April
22, 2006 –
Barbara Orsolits, a doctoral student at Georgia
State University, was awarded the Hubert Owens
Scholarship from The Georgia Trust for Historic
Preservation at its recent Annual Meeting in
Athens.
The $1,000
scholarship encourages the study of historic
preservation and related fields. A Ph.D History
student at Georgia State University, Orsolits also
holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Indiana
University and a Master’s in historic preservation
from Georgia State. She is interested in cultural
landscapes and has produced several scholarly
studies and papers which have been presented in
national forums.
Orsolits also
developed a Web site aimed to enhance public
understanding of some of the cultural landscapes
that she has studied. She is active in the Georgia
Early American Culture and History Society and the
Southern Association for Women Historians.
The
Trust has awarded academic stipends to worthy
students studying in fields related to historic
preservation at Georgia colleges and universities
since 1977.
The
Hubert Owens Scholarship, named after the first
dean of the School of Environmental Design at the
University of Georgia, ensures that knowledgeable
leaders continue to enter the field.
