Georgia State Student Wins Scholarship from

Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation

ATLANTA, April 22, 2006 – Barbara Orsolits, a doctoral student at Georgia State University, was awarded the Hubert Owens Scholarship from The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation at its recent Annual Meeting in Athens.

The $1,000 scholarship encourages the study of historic preservation and related fields.  A Ph.D History student at Georgia State University, Orsolits also holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Indiana University and a Master’s in historic preservation from Georgia State. She is interested in cultural landscapes and has produced several scholarly studies and papers which have been presented in national forums.

Orsolits also developed a Web site aimed to enhance public understanding of some of the cultural landscapes that she has studied. She is active in the Georgia Early American Culture and History Society and the Southern Association for Women Historians.

The Trust has awarded academic stipends to worthy students studying in fields related to historic preservation at Georgia colleges and universities since 1977. The Hubert Owens Scholarship, named after the first dean of the School of Environmental Design at the University of Georgia, ensures that knowledgeable leaders continue to enter the field.
