Each year, The
Georgia Trust awards two $1,000
scholarships to encourage the study of
historic preservation and related fields.
Recipients are chosen on the basis of
leadership and academic achievement.
The Trust
established its scholarship program to
ensure that knowledgeable leaders continue
to enter the field of historic
preservation. Its two scholarships
encourage students to pursue degrees that
will allow them to work in the field of
preservation and thereby assist the Trust
in its goals to conserve Georgia's built
environment, inform the public about the
benefits of historic preservation, and
assist individuals and communities in
their restoration and preservation
projects.
Requirements
Students currently
enrolled in their first year of school in
Georgia may apply. Applicants also must
plan to enroll full time during the
current or upcoming semesters at a Georgia
school. Students applying for the
scholarship are encouraged to plan to stay
and work in Georgia following graduation.
Students majoring in historic preservation
or related fields such as archeology,
architecture, history and planning are
eligible. Stipends are given for the
current or following academic year and
divided over three quarters or two
semesters.
To
Apply
Complete the application form and include
evidence of college registration. Also
arrange for a transcript and one personal
and two academic letters of
recommendation. Recipients must provide
proof of current registration and the
previous term's grades before the next
term's payment. Applications will be
evaluated on 1) the application itself, 2)
academic achievement, and 3) past and
planned involvement within
preservation-related fields.
The Trust
must receive applications and supporting
documents by February for the following
year. Scholarships will be awarded at the
Trust's Annual Meeting in the spring.
Deadline is February 13, 2009.
