Preservation Professionals group
(formerly Industry Council) hosts several informal
gatherings throughout the year to
highlight hot preservation issues and
provide a forum for our members to meet
each other and network with peers.

Past events
In April 2006, more than 70 people
attended the Historic Preservation for
Building Industry Professionals during
The Georgia Trust Annual Meeting &
Ramble. During the day-long event,
attendees visited historic sites
throughout Athens, including the
award-winning Bottleworks complex and
several historic buildings on UGA's
historic campus, to get a
behind-the-scenes look at recent
successful rehabilitation projects.

In September, we toured the Savannah
College of Art & Design's new
Midtown Atlanta campus and learned how the
school's preservation and development
interests are changing the face of the
city. More

In
July 2005, the Preservation
Professionals Council held its
first event, highlighting the Belt Line
proposal. More than 60 people attended
the event, which featured Ryan Gravel,
president of Friends of the Belt Line. More

In
November 2005, the group took a hard-hat tour of historic Herren's Restaurant, located on Luckie
Street in downtown Atlanta that is
currently being adapted for reuse as a
theater. The event will feature history
of the famous site, plus a discussion on the
challenges and successes associated with
combining preservation philosophy with
sustainable building practices. A
hard-hat tour of the site will follow

January 10, 2006, the Preservation
Professionals Council
hosted an
in-depth look at the new Beltline Tax
Allocation District (TAD) in Atlanta.
More than 60 people attended to learn
about some of the opportunities for
redevelopment of historic buildings and
compatible infill design.
