2015 PRESERVATION AWARDS: CHAIRMAN'S AWARD

MARK C. MCDONALD AND MICHAEL L. STARR
Atlanta

The Chairman's Award is reserved to be presented at the sole discretion of The Georgia Trust Chairman of the Board of Trustees to recognize extraordinary efforts contributing to the preservation of Georgia's historic resources. This year's award was presented to Georgia Trust President and CEO Mark C. McDonald and former Trust Chairman Michael L. Starr.

In 2008 during a transitional time for the Trust, Mike Starr selflessly gave his time and energy to find a new president to lead the Trust through difficult financial and organizational times. Familiar with the excellent work of Mark McDonald at Historic Savannah Foundation, Mike recommended bringing on Mark as the Trust's new president and CEO.

Seven years after Mark joined The Georgia Trust, the organization is stronger than ever, with a board that supports the organization's mission and is fully engaged with Trust programs, a dedicated staff that works as a team to do the work that twice as many used to do, and a growing membership. Foundations have a renewed level of confidence in giving to the Trust. And most significantly, through belt tightening and hard work, the Trust has ended each of the last seven fiscal years in the black.
