STUDY TOURS - WINSTON-SALEM
The Georgia Trust Study Tour to Winston-Salem, October 2004

The red carpet was laid out in style in Winston-Salem for the Georgia Trust Study Tour group October 7–10.

Every hour was chock-full of information and new vistas, from the renowned Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) and the new Toy Museum to the restored Old Salem Moravian settlement. Members also toured through spectacular historic private residences ranging from a 17th century log cabin to ornate Victorian homes and a 20th century tobacco tycoon’s estate. A special treat: our group was the first to tour a new wing of the historic Reynolda mansion, which will house the Reynolds’ family art collection in 2005.

Some of The Georgia Trust Study Tour group visits historic Old Salem village in Winston-Salem with historian guide Richard Pardue.

Touring historic sites wasn’t the only activity on the agenda. One balmy evening, members dined in a relocated and restored greenhouse and on another in the gardens of the Daniel Boone family’s restored log cabin.

Designed exclusively for Trust members, The Georgia Trust Study Tours offer an in-depth look at historic destinations in the United States and around the world. Historic home owners and local historians act as tour guides, giving members an inside peek at the historic towns we visit each year.

The extraordinary learning experience of the Winston-Salem trip has inspired the Study Tour committee to begin next year’s plans for a Ken Ward Travel-designed trip to Quebec, Canada. There’s a limited number of spaces available, so put on your going shoes and sign up early!
