Reception at Rhodes Hall

Begin the weekend at the beautifully restored Rhodes Hall, headquarters of The Georgia Trust. Enjoy a lovely reception and take a special behind-the-scenes tour of one of the last remaining grand homes standing on Peachtree, Atlanta’s main street.

Enjoy breakfast and a quick orientation at the English Gothic style St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where its gorgeous windows were created and installed over a sixty year period and were the work of three world renowned stained glass studios.

Saturday Ramble
Your Saturday morning Ramble will feature several landmark Midtown buildings, including The Fabulous Fox Theatre, a Moorish Revival fantasy which activated the preservation movement in Atlanta.
The Ansley Park portion contains gorgeous homes nestled in an urban oasis. Ansley Park was first developed in 1904 as a new motorcar-oriented suburb with wide, winding streets and green parks. Atlanta’s first planned community, Inman Park, is the focus of your afternoon Ramble. Laid out in the 1880s by Joel Hurt to take advantage of his new trolley car route, it included large wooded lots, Springvale Park and Crystal Lake.

Dinner at East Lake Golf Club
Saturday evening experience the rare opportunity to dine at the exclusive East Lake Golf Club, the home course of the legendary golfer Bobby Jones. This exclusive property features a 1914 clubhouse designed by noted Atlanta architect Neel Reid, assisted by Philip Trammell Shutze and others of Hentz, Reid & Adler. Part of the clubhouse burned in 1926, and the interior was remodeled by Shutze.
The cost of the dinner at East Lake includes charter bus transportation, an open-bar reception, and dinner with wine service. Complimentary valet parking will also be available. Appropriate dress required.
Ramblers wishing to dine on their own Saturday night may deduct the cost of the event from their payment and choose from the wide variety of dining options in Atlanta.

Relax with friends over a delicious brunch at Oakland Cemetery, the final resting place of Gone with the Wind author Margaret Mitchell and many Atlanta notables. Hear their stories on a guided tour and learn about the post-tornado restoration of this historic cemetery.

Sunday Ramble
Wander into nearby Grant Park, established in 1892 when local businessman Lemuel P. Grant donated a 100-acre park to the City of Atlanta. You’ll see some of the fantastic Victorian homes that surround the park as well as the partially rebuilt Grant Mansion.
Finally, explore the rich heritage of the Sweet Auburn National Landmark Historic District, where Martin Luther King, Jr., was born, raised, and worked with other giants of the Civil Rights Movement.
