2008 SPRING RAMBLE AND ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 

Friday, April 4

11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Registration at the Columbus Main Library

3000 Macon Road

The Columbus Public Library, designed by Robert A.M. Stern, has quickly become a civic icon and cultural anchor in Midtown Columbus.

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Midtown Ramble

Friday's Ramble will include The Columbus Museum and Olmsted Garden, Wynnton Arts Academy Library, the Butt-Banks House, Hillcrest, the Illges-Norman House, the Carson McCullers House, and Midtown 21st Condominiums.

The Columbus Museum and Gardens, 1251 Wynnton Road
The Museum is particularly known for its concentration on American art and the history of the region.
 
Wynnton Arts Academy Library, 2303 Wynnton Road
The original building, located in the center of the complex, was built in 1843 and is still in use today as a museum and art gallery.

Butt-Banks Home, 1236 Wildwood Avenue
This beautiful house was built circa 1840 by Moses Butt and his wife Priscilla Banks Butt, sister of John Banks, builder of the Cedars.

Illges – Norman Home, 2021 Brookside Drive
Built in 1934, this stone Tudor Revival house was designed by Atlanta-based architect James Mitchell and features rubble walls.

Hillcrest,1652 Carter Avenue,
Built in 1890 by successful Columbus businessman John Francis Flournoy for his second wife Mary Reynolds Flournoy, this elaborate Queen Anne style house with Eastlake details was designed by L.E. Thornton.

Smith-McCullers House Museum, 1519 Stark Avenue
Childhood home of Carson McCullers. Most famous for novels such as The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and The Member of the Wedding, McCullers was also a playwright and a short story writer.

Cocktails, Dinner & Dessert

Start the evening with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at Dinglewood, an Italianate-style house designed for Colonel Joel Early Hurt by Columbus architects and builders Barringer and Morton in 1858.  Next enjoy dinner at the beautiful Greek Revival style Gordonido, which translates from Spanish into Gordon’s nest. End the night with dessert at the Wynn House, a grand Greek Revival style house.

Lunch & Learn

RiverMill Event Center, 3715 First Avenue

Enjoy lunch at the former home of Bibb Manufacturing Company, a historic cotton mill. Built in 1900, this building grew by 1920 to a breath-taking size of six stories high, covering an area 128 feet wide and 1,010 feet long, reputedly the world’s largest cotton mill under one roof. In 1999, Buck Investment Company purchased the mill and after a series of renovations created the RiverMill Event Centre.

Uptown Ramble

Saturday’s Ramble will include the Eagle/Phenix Condos, W.C. Bradley Co. Museum, Springer Opera House, CSU River Park Campus, Port Columbus, and the Ma Rainey House.

6 p.m.

35th Anniversary Reception and Dinner
Columbus Convention & Trade Center, 801 Front Avenue

Celebrate the Trust’s 35 years at the former Columbus Iron Works, established in 1853.

Sunday, April 6

9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Brunch in Historic Linwood Cemetery
721 Linwood Boulevard

The weekend will conclude with a Sunday brunch at the historic Linwood Cemetery.
